About APD
The Association of People with Disability (APD) is one of India's oldest disability organisations, founded in 1959 in Bengaluru. Operating for over six decades, APD has built a comprehensive model combining rehabilitation, education, livelihood, and community integration.
What They Do
- Rehabilitation — physiotherapy, orthotics, prosthetics, and assistive device provision
- Inclusive education — resource centres supporting children with disabilities in mainstream schools across Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh
- Livelihood — vocational training and employment support, particularly in rural areas
- Community-based rehabilitation — village-level workers supporting people with disabilities in remote areas
Who They Serve
APD serves children and adults with physical disabilities, intellectual and developmental disabilities, and multiple disabilities, primarily across Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh but with national training influence.
Geographic Reach
APD operates in Bengaluru and extends to over 10,000 villages across Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh through its community-based rehabilitation programme, one of the largest such networks in South India.
