The Arc of California
Since 1950, The Arc of California has promoted and protected the human rights of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, advocating for full community inclusion, self-determination, and access to services across the state.
About
Established in 1950, The Arc of California is the statewide chapter of The Arc of the United States, a national network advocating for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) and their families. Headquartered in Sacramento, the organisation coordinates a network of local Arc chapters and allied advocacy groups across California.
What They Do
The Arc of California tracks, analyses, and responds to state legislation affecting people with IDD and their families. The organisation provides educational events, trainings, and resources in both English and Spanish on topics including regional centre services, special education rights, Medi-Cal, housing, and supported employment. The Arc also engages in coalition-building and public-awareness campaigns to advance inclusive communities.
Who They Serve
The Arc of California serves people with intellectual and developmental disabilities of all ages — from early childhood through older adulthood — and their family members and caregivers. Particular attention is paid to underserved communities, including Spanish-speaking families and individuals in rural areas of the state.
