The Arc of Washington State
The Arc of Washington State has championed the rights and full inclusion of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities since 1936, making it one of the oldest disability advocacy organisations in the United States. The Arc of Washington advocates for policies, services, and community supports that enable people with IDD to live, work, and participate fully in their communities.
About
Founded in 1936 by parents of children with intellectual disabilities, The Arc of Washington State was among the first parent-led disability advocacy organisations in the nation. Today The Arc of Washington is a statewide membership organisation with a network of local chapters, united in the mission to advance rights, inclusion, and community participation for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
What They Do
The Arc of Washington provides legislative advocacy, policy analysis, resource navigation, and direct support to individuals and families. The organisation publishes policy recommendations, trains self-advocates and families, runs leadership development programmes, and monitors state services for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Who They Serve
The Arc of Washington serves children, adults, and seniors with intellectual disabilities, developmental disabilities, Down syndrome, autism, and related conditions, along with their families and caregivers. Advocacy is conducted throughout Washington State, including rural and underserved communities.
