About

Blind Citizens Australia (BCA) is Australia's peak consumer organisation for people who are blind or have low vision. It is governed by people with lived experience of blindness and low vision, making it a true Disabled Persons Organisation (DPO). BCA was formed through the merger of earlier blindness advocacy bodies and operates from its national office in Flinders Lane, Melbourne. It holds observer status with the World Blind Union.

What They Do

BCA undertakes systemic advocacy on access, technology, transport, employment, and education for people who are blind or have low vision. It engages with government, the private sector, and the media to advance accessibility standards, including digital accessibility and audio description. BCA supports the community through peer networks, publications in accessible formats, and regular events that connect members across Australia.

Who They Serve

BCA's membership and advocacy is focused on Australians who are blind or have low vision, across all age groups. It works alongside sighted allies and organisations such as Vision Australia, but remains independently governed by blind people. Members include individuals who are totally blind, those with partial sight, and people with degenerative vision conditions.
