About BPA India
The Blind People's Association (BPA) India, headquartered on a 5-acre campus in Vastrapur, Ahmedabad, is one of Gujarat's most comprehensive disability resource centres. Despite its name, BPA now works across a wide range of disabilities — providing integrated education, rehabilitation, assistive technology, and vocational training.
What They Do
- Inclusive education — integrated schools and resource rooms supporting blind and disabled children in mainstream Gujarat schools
- Braille and accessible materials — Braille press producing educational materials in Gujarati, Hindi, and English
- Assistive technology — a dedicated AT centre offering training in screen readers, DAISY players, and other access technology
- Rehabilitation — low vision clinic, mobility training, and daily living skills
- Research — publications on blindness and disability education practices in the Indian context
- Livelihood — vocational training for adults across crafts, computer skills, and telephone operating
