Organization
CBM Kenya — East Africa Regional Office(CBM Kenya)
The East Africa hub of CBM Global Disability Inclusion, based in Nairobi, working to end the cycle of poverty and disability by supporting inclusive health, education, and livelihood programmes for persons with disabilities in Kenya and across the East Africa region.
About
CBM Kenya is the East Africa Regional Office of CBM Global Disability Inclusion (formerly Christian Blind Mission), located in the Westlands area of Nairobi. CBM is an international development organisation founded in 1908 that has worked in Kenya for decades, partnering with local organisations, government ministries, and health systems to break the cycle of poverty and disability.
What They Do
CBM Kenya supports inclusive health services — including eye care, ear and hearing care, and mental health — alongside inclusive education and economic empowerment programmes. Recent initiatives include an ear and hearing care project in Meru County expanding screening and treatment for children, and programmes promoting inclusive mental health services in partnership with the Kenyan government. CBM Kenya also leads disability-inclusive humanitarian training regionally, equipping emergency response actors to include persons with disabilities in crisis response.
Who They Serve
CBM Kenya primarily serves persons with visual impairments, hearing loss, physical disabilities, and psychosocial disabilities in Kenya and East Africa. Programmes reach rural and underserved communities where disability and poverty intersect most acutely — including children who lack access to school, people who cannot access health care, and adults excluded from economic participation. CBM works through local partner organisations, ensuring programmes are community-led and sustainable.
