About
ÉFOÉSZ (Értelmi Fogyatékossággal Élők és Segítőik Országos Szervezete — Hungarian Association for Persons with Intellectual Disability) is the umbrella organisation for groups concerned with the care, inclusion, and rights of people with intellectual disabilities in Hungary. It represents 50 member associations, 25 local branches, and more than 22,000 individual members, and is an active member of Inclusion Europe.
What They Do
ÉFOÉSZ advocates for rights-based policy aligned with the European Social Charter and UN standards, organises national seminars, workshops, and conferences, and publishes a quarterly newsletter called "Kapaszkodó" (Handrail). The association runs self-advocacy groups and supports people with intellectual disabilities in representing themselves in public life and at universities.
