ENABLE Scotland
ENABLE Scotland is Scotland's national charity for people with learning disabilities and their families, founded in 1954 by parents who wanted better lives for their children. It delivers self-directed social care, employability programmes, and community campaigns across Scotland.
About
ENABLE Scotland was founded in 1954 when a group of parents in Glasgow began meeting to challenge societal attitudes toward learning disability. Now based at INSPIRE House in Motherwell, the charity supports people with learning disabilities, their families and carers across all of Scotland through three service pillars: Enable Cares, Enable Works, and Enable Communities.
What They Do
Enable Cares provides self-directed health and social care support. Enable Works delivers employment and training services that help people with learning disabilities find and keep jobs. Enable Communities runs grassroots campaigns, peer-support groups, and advocacy work, including input to Scottish Government legislation such as the Learning Disability, Autism and Neurodivergence (LDAN) Bill.
Who They Serve
People with learning disabilities in Scotland at every stage of life, plus their families and carers who need respite, information, and practical support.
