FENACERCI(FENACERCI)
Portuguese national federation of 52 social solidarity cooperatives providing services to approximately 25,000 people with intellectual disabilities and their families. Born from the 1975 democratic revolution, it focuses on social inclusion, lifelong support, employment, and quality of life.
About
FENACERCI was founded in 1976 in the aftermath of Portugal's democratic revolution by parents who established local cooperatives to provide education and rehabilitation for children with intellectual disabilities. Today its 52 member cooperatives operate throughout mainland Portugal and the islands.
What They Do
FENACERCI member cooperatives deliver early intervention, education, day centres, residential care, sheltered employment, and supported community living. The federation advocates nationally for inclusive policy, trains professionals, and represents Portugal at international forums on intellectual disability.
Who They Serve
People with intellectual disabilities from early childhood through older age, with particular strength in lifelong-support services, and the families and carers who support them.
