Fiji Disabled Peoples Federation(FDPF)
Fiji's national umbrella disabled peoples' organisation, tracing its roots to the late 1970s and now encompassing four major affiliate associations and 15 community branches across the country. FDPF advocates for equal enjoyment of all human rights by all persons with disabilities using the UN CRPD.
About
The Fiji Disabled Peoples Federation (FDPF) began as the Fiji Paraplegic Committee in the late 1970s, became the Fiji Disabled Peoples Association in 1984, and adopted its current name in 2012. It is a founding member of the Pacific Disability Forum and a pioneer of disability rights advocacy in the Pacific.
What They Do
FDPF runs advocacy and training programmes, provides peer support through 15 community branches, and links members to national services. It operates through four affiliate associations — the Fiji Association of the Deaf, the Psychiatric Survivors Association, the Spinal Injury Association, and United Blind Persons of Fiji.
Who They Serve
FDPF serves all persons with disabilities in Fiji, including people who are Deaf, blind, have physical impairments, or live with psychosocial disabilities, ensuring each group has representation at the national level.
