Inclusion BC
Inclusion BC is British Columbia's provincial federation for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families, founded in 1955 by parents whose children were excluded from public school. It advocates for community inclusion, self-determination, and systemic change across the province.
About
Founded in 1955 as the BC Association for Retarded Children by parent groups across the province, Inclusion BC is headquartered in New Westminster, BC. Over seven decades it has evolved into a cross-provincial advocacy network connecting local associations, self-advocates, and families in every region of British Columbia.
What They Do
Inclusion BC provides individual and family advocacy through its Individual and Family Advocacy Program, supports self-advocacy groups for people with intellectual disabilities, and undertakes systems-level change work with the provincial government. It trains advocates, produces accessible policy resources, and operates province-wide inclusion campaigns.
Who They Serve
Inclusion BC serves people with intellectual and developmental disabilities of all ages and their families throughout British Columbia, as well as local associations and professionals seeking guidance on inclusive practice.
