Irish Deaf Society(IDS)
The Irish Deaf Society (IDS) is the only national Deaf-led representative organisation in Ireland, founded in 1981 to campaign for Irish Sign Language recognition, equal access, and services for Deaf people. A recognised Disabled People's Organisation under the UN CRPD, IDS is a member of the World Federation of the Deaf.
About
Founded in 1981 and headquartered at Deaf Village Ireland, Cabra, Dublin 7, the Irish Deaf Society is the sole national organisation in Ireland that is led by and representative of the Deaf community.
What They Do
IDS campaigns for the recognition and promotion of Irish Sign Language (ISL), provides health, personal, and social information services to Deaf and hard of hearing individuals, and runs an Advocacy Department representing Deaf people's interests to Government. The Society supports Deaf adults, children, and their families through educational, social, and cultural programmes.
