Saudi Arabia's leading scientific research institution dedicated to disability studies, founded in 1991 in Riyadh. KSCDR funds interdisciplinary research, publishes the Journal of Disability Research, and informs disability policy throughout the Kingdom and Arab world.
About
The King Salman Center for Disability Research (KSCDR) was established in 1991 by royal approval in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Founded to complement direct service organizations, KSCDR focuses exclusively on generating, disseminating, and translating scientific knowledge about disability into actionable policy and practice. It is named in honor of His Majesty King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.
What They Do
KSCDR funds and conducts research across medical, social, technological, and policy dimensions of disability. The center publishes the peer-reviewed Journal of Disability Research (JDR) and hosts international research forums, including its annual Disability Research Forum. KSCDR has signed cooperation agreements with global universities, implemented universal accessibility programs in Saudi cities, and played a key role in Riyadh being declared the first disability-friendly city in the Kingdom.
Who They Serve
The center's work benefits persons with all types of disabilities, their families, healthcare professionals, policymakers, and researchers throughout Saudi Arabia and the broader Arab and international disability research community. KSCDR's grant programs support both Saudi and international research collaborations, making it a key bridge between the Kingdom's disability sector and global knowledge networks.
