About
Founded in 1964 by Sabina Santilli, who herself became deafblind at age seven, Fondazione Lega del Filo d'Oro ETS is headquartered at Via Linguetta 3, 60027 Osimo (AN), Italy. Originally a small community initiative, it has grown into Italy's leading specialist organisation for deafblind rehabilitation, with centres in twelve regions and a highly trained multidisciplinary staff. A Committee of Deaf-Blind Persons formally advises the Board.
What They Do
Lega del Filo d'Oro provides residential rehabilitation programmes, day-centre services, outpatient care, and early intervention for deafblind and psychosensory multi-disabled individuals. It conducts scientific research into deafblindness and multisensory impairment, trains professionals in augmentative and alternative communication and specialist rehabilitation methods, and raises public awareness through its international network.
Who They Serve
The organisation serves people of all ages who have both hearing and vision loss, including those with additional intellectual or physical disabilities. Services are delivered through twelve regional centres throughout Italy, where the foundation holds national recognition as the specialist reference body for deafblind rehabilitation and care.
