Minnesota Hands & Voices(MHV)
A parent-driven non-profit programme supporting Minnesota families with children who are deaf or hard of hearing, providing unbiased peer guidance, ASL connections, and community-specific support across the Twin Cities and greater Minnesota. Specially trained Parent Guides serve Northeast African, Southeast Asian, and Spanish-speaking communities.
About
Minnesota Hands & Voices is the Minnesota chapter of the national Hands & Voices organisation, operating through Lutheran Social Service of Minnesota. It is a parent-driven programme led by parents of deaf and hard-of-hearing children and dedicated to the principle that families should have access to all communication options without bias.
What They Do
MHV connects newly identified families with trained Parent Guides who share lived experience raising deaf or hard-of-hearing children. Services include parent-to-peer support, connections with deaf and hard-of-hearing adult role models, ASL instruction referrals, family workshops, resource directories, and advocacy for communication access and inclusive educational outcomes. Community-specific guides serve Northeast African, Southeast Asian, and Spanish-speaking families.
Who They Serve
Families in Minnesota — particularly parents of newly identified deaf or hard-of-hearing children — seeking guidance, peer connection, and resources at any point in their family's journey.
