Royal National Institute of Blind People(RNIB)
RNIB is the UK's leading sight loss charity, founded in 1868, supporting the two million people living with sight loss through its helpline, Talking Books Library, eye clinic support workers, assistive technology guidance, and funded research. It campaigns for accessible digital services, improved NHS eye care, and equal opportunities for blind and partially sighted people.
About
The Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB) has supported blind and partially sighted people in the UK for over 155 years, making it one of the oldest and most established sight loss charities in the world. Raising over £60 million annually, RNIB operates on the belief that sight loss should never prevent someone from living a full life — removing barriers through direct services, assistive technology, research, and systemic advocacy.
What They Do
RNIB's Talking Books Library provides thousands of accessible audio and Braille titles free to members with a print disability. Eye Care Liaison Officers (ECLOs) provide emotional support and practical guidance to patients at NHS eye clinics across the UK. The Sight Loss Advice Service helps people access assistive technology, welfare benefits, and workplace adjustments. RNIB also funds research into the prevention and treatment of eye conditions and campaigns for better NHS eye care access and fully accessible digital services.
Who They Serve
Blind and partially sighted people across the UK at all stages of sight loss — from newly diagnosed individuals to those blind from birth — together with their families, carers, and the healthcare and education professionals who support them.
