Royal National Institute for Deaf People(RNID)
RNID is the UK's national charity for the 18 million people who are deaf, have hearing loss, or experience tinnitus, providing community drop-in support, information resources, and funding world-class hearing research. It campaigns for a fully inclusive society where deaf people and those with hearing loss face no barriers to participation.
About
Founded in 1911 and rebranded back to RNID in 2020 after a period operating as Action on Hearing Loss, the Royal National Institute for Deaf People has over a century of experience supporting deaf people and those with hearing loss or tinnitus across the UK. It combines direct community support with ambitious investment in research aimed at preventing and restoring hearing and silencing tinnitus.
What They Do
RNID provides free information and support via email, live chat, text, and BSL video relay service. Their RNID Near You programme delivers in-person drop-in sessions in towns and cities across the UK. Online resources cover hearing aids, lip-reading, benefits, tinnitus management, and employment rights. RNID also funds research on hearing restoration and campaigns for improved NHS audiology services, better hearing loop provision in public venues, and accessible communication in workplaces.
Who They Serve
Deaf people, people with hearing loss or tinnitus, and BSL users of all ages across the UK — together with their families, carers, employers, and the health professionals who support them.
