Sense International India
The only national organisation focused exclusively on deafblindness in India, founded in 1997, building capacity and delivering services through 60 partner NGOs across 23 Indian states.
About Sense International India
Sense International India is the only organisation in India dedicated exclusively to people who are deafblind — those who have combined sight and hearing loss that profoundly affects their communication, mobility, and access to information. Founded in 1997, it operates as part of the global Sense International network.
What They Do
- Capacity building — training partner NGOs, government workers, and families to support deafblind individuals
- Intervener services — developing a trained workforce of one-to-one support communicators
- Inclusive education — supporting deafblind children in both special and mainstream school settings
- Advocacy — pushing for deafblind-specific recognition in disability policy and legal frameworks
- Partner network — coordinating 60 NGOs across 23 states to deliver localised services
Who They Serve
Sense International India serves children and adults who are deafblind, as well as their families and the professionals who support them, across 23 Indian states.
Why It Matters
Deafblindness is often underrecognised in India — many deafblind people are misclassified or receive no disability-specific support. Sense International India fills a critical gap in the country's disability ecosystem.
