Sense
Sense is a UK disability charity with over 70 years of experience supporting people who are deafblind or living with complex disabilities and sensory impairments to communicate, connect, and participate in the world. It provides residential care, community support, short breaks, arts programmes, and a free virtual buddying service.
About
Founded in 1955 by parents of children with rubella-related deafblindness, Sense has broadened its mission to support all people living with complex disabilities and multiple sensory impairments. It is widely recognised as the UK's leading organisation for deafblind people, operating centres, residential homes, and community outreach services across England and Wales while advocating for policy change at national level.
What They Do
Sense offers residential and supported living services, one-to-one community support, specialist education for young people with complex learning disabilities, and short breaks for families. Arts and sport programmes help people with complex disabilities engage in creative expression and physical activity. The free Virtual Buddying service matches isolated disabled people with trained volunteers, and Connect and Play delivers sensory play sessions for young children with complex disabilities.
Who They Serve
People who are deafblind or living with complex disabilities, multiple sensory impairments, or combined conditions — from children through adulthood — as well as their families and carers across the UK.
