Spinal Cord Injury Canada(SCI Canada)
Spinal Cord Injury Canada is a national federation supporting Canadians living with spinal cord injuries and related paralysis through a coast-to-coast network of eight provincial organizations founded by WWII veterans in 1945. SCI Canada delivers peer support, rehabilitation guidance, community reintegration services, and national advocacy to improve the lives of people with SCI and their families.
About
Founded in 1945 by World War II veterans with spinal cord injuries, Spinal Cord Injury Canada operates as a federated national organization with eight provincial Corporate Members and a national coordinating office. SCI Canada's founders helped establish the world's first spinal cord injury rehabilitation centre and played a central role in creating Canada's Department of Veterans' Affairs.
What They Do
SCI Canada coordinates national advocacy, peer support programming, and rehabilitation resources across its provincial network, champions accessibility in transportation, housing, and public spaces, and provides national policy representation for the spinal cord injury community. Provincial members deliver hands-on services including peer mentoring, equipment loans, and community reintegration support tailored to their regions.
Who They Serve
SCI Canada serves Canadians living with spinal cord injuries and related paralysis — including those with traumatic injuries and conditions causing similar functional limitations — as well as their caregivers and families. Services are delivered through a national network ensuring regional presence across every part of Canada.
