Organization
Unapei
French national movement of 330 associations representing 900,000 people—individuals with intellectual disabilities, families, and professionals. It manages 3,000 medico-social services supporting some 200,000 people with intellectual disabilities, autism, and multiple disabilities across France.
About
Founded in 1960 by parents of children with intellectual disabilities who were excluded from mainstream care, Unapei has grown into France's leading network for this population. Its 330 member associations operate across every French department, collectively managing 3,000 medico-social establishments and services.
What They Do
Unapei advocates in parliament and with government ministries for appropriate policy, funding, and rights protections. It sets quality standards for member services, trains professionals, and campaigns against the social exclusion of people with intellectual disabilities and autism.
Who They Serve
Children, adults, and elderly people with intellectual disabilities, autism spectrum conditions, and complex support needs, as well as their families and the professionals who support them.
