by American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA)
The American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) is the national professional, scientific, and credentialing association for audiologists and speech-language pathologists in the United States. Its public-facing Early Intervention resource hub translates clinical knowledge into accessible information for families whose young children may have communication delays or disabilities.
The site explains what early intervention speech-language services are, how the IDEA Part C evaluation process works, what an IFSP includes, and how services are delivered in natural environments. Communication milestone charts for hearing, speech, and language development are provided from birth through age 5. Families can use the ASHA ProFind tool to locate a certified audiologist or speech-language pathologist in their area. Information about feeding and swallowing milestones (birth to age 3) is also included, and selected materials are available in Spanish.
Parents and caregivers of infants and toddlers with or at risk for speech, language, hearing, or feeding delays; paediatricians and other healthcare providers who screen for communication disorders; and early intervention service coordinators who need clear referral guidance.
