About this resource

About

The AT3 Center (Assistive Technology Act Technical Assistance and Training Center) is federally funded by the Administration for Community Living (ACL) to support the national network of State Assistive Technology Programs. This directory is the definitive starting point for anyone in the United States who needs AT and is facing cost or access barriers. Every US state, the District of Columbia, and all US territories have a federally mandated AT program that provides free or low-cost AT services to residents regardless of age, disability type, or income level.

What It Offers

  • State AT program directory: Interactive map and searchable directory linking to every state's AT program website and contact information
  • Device demonstration: Every state program maintains demonstration centres where people can try AT before purchasing — reducing the risk of buying expensive equipment that doesn't work for them
  • Device loan programs: Short-term loans (typically 2–8 weeks) of AT equipment for trial periods, at no cost — covering wheelchairs, communication devices, hearing tech, vision aids, smart home AT, and more
  • Device reuse exchanges: Programs that refurbish and redistribute donated AT equipment at low or no cost — particularly valuable for high-cost items like power wheelchairs and communication devices
  • AT funding assistance: Navigation support and direct assistance in identifying and accessing AT funding through Medicaid, Medicare, Vocational Rehabilitation, education entitlements, and state-specific programs
  • Training and technical assistance: State programs provide training on AT use for individuals, families, educators, and professionals

Who It's For

This resource is for any US resident with a disability who needs AT but is facing cost, access, or information barriers. State AT programs serve people of all ages (including children and seniors), all disability types, and all income levels. The directory is the most important first stop for families newly navigating AT — particularly when commercial AT costs are prohibitive.
