About this resource

About

Baby Navigator was developed by the FIRST WORDS® Project and Autism Navigator teams at the Florida State University College of Medicine Autism Institute, drawing on more than 20 years of federally-funded longitudinal research into the earliest social-communication markers associated with autism spectrum disorder. The site is free and open to families and professionals worldwide.

What It Does

The site provides video examples of typical and atypical early social communication, a parent-completed screening checklist for children aged 9–18 months, a Social Communication Growth Chart, photo-illustrated lookbooks showing 16 early signs of autism by 16 months, and free registration for online parent courses. All content is designed to be accessible without a clinical background.

Who It Helps

Parents and caregivers of babies from birth to 24 months, particularly those with concerns about early communication development or autism. Paediatricians and home visitors also use the site to support family education during well-child visits and developmental screenings.
