About this resource

About

Learn the Signs. Act Early. is a public health campaign from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) designed to help parents, caregivers, and healthcare providers monitor children's developmental milestones and act quickly if a concern is identified. The programme was developed in partnership with the American Academy of Pediatrics and other national organisations.

What It Does

The programme provides illustrated milestone checklists (updated in 2022 to reflect current evidence) for every age from 2 months to 5 years, short videos of milestones in action, a Digital Online Checklist, free downloadable and mailable print materials, and the Milestone Tracker mobile app. The app adjusts milestone windows for prematurity, generates PDF reports to share with a child's doctor, and links families directly to their state's early intervention programme. The site also explains what to do if a concern is spotted and how to request a free evaluation under IDEA Part C.

Who It Helps

Parents and primary caregivers of infants and toddlers from birth to age 5, paediatricians, childcare providers, and early intervention service coordinators who need a trusted, evidence-based reference for developmental surveillance.
