About this resource

About

Choose Work is the Social Security Administration's Ticket to Work programme, designed to help people who receive SSDI or SSI disability benefits explore and pursue paid employment while protecting their benefits during the transition. The programme is entirely voluntary and free for all eligible beneficiaries aged 18 to 64.

What It Does

Participants are connected to a nationwide network of approved Employment Networks (ENs) and State Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) agencies that provide career counselling, job training, placement support, and ongoing follow-along services. The Choose Work website offers a service-provider finder, work-incentive calculators, real-life success stories, and plain-language guides explaining exactly how earnings affect SSA benefit payments.

Who It Helps

Social Security disability beneficiaries (SSDI or SSI) between the ages of 18 and 64 who want to enter or re-enter the workforce — and their families, benefits counsellors, and employment service providers supporting this transition.
