About this resource

About

Clicker 8, developed by Crick Software, is used in special education classrooms worldwide as both a writing support tool and an accessible word processor. It is particularly popular with students who use AAC, have autism, or have significant literacy barriers.

What It Does

Clicker provides customisable word banks and grids that students click to build sentences, with symbols (including Widgit and PCS) to support non-readers. It reads text aloud as students write, predicts words, and includes a picture-supported spell checker. Teachers can create scaffolded writing activities and differentiated grids matched to curriculum topics. Works on Windows, Mac, and iPad.

Who It Helps

Students from reception age through secondary school with significant literacy difficulties, AAC needs, autism, cognitive disabilities, or physical disabilities that make keyboard use challenging. Especially effective for students transitioning from AAC to independent writing.
