About this resource

About

Learning Without Tears (LWT) was founded in 1977 by an occupational therapist who developed a simplified, developmentally sequenced approach to teaching handwriting. The curriculum is used in thousands of schools across the US and internationally, and is widely recommended by occupational therapists for children with fine motor, sensory, or learning challenges.

What It Does

LWT offers a complete curriculum spanning pre-K through grade 5 for handwriting (both print and cursive) and keyboarding. The Wet-Dry-Try teaching method uses multisensory activities — slate chalkboards, sponge cubes, and digital apps — to reinforce letter formation. The companion app, Letra Kid, provides interactive letter practice. A digital subscription (GSuite) offers curriculum management for school-wide implementation.

Who It Helps

Children in pre-K through grade 5, particularly those with dysgraphia, fine motor delays, sensory processing differences, or learning disabilities that make traditional handwriting instruction ineffective. Also used by occupational therapists in school and clinical settings.
