About this resource

About

The ONET Interest Profiler is developed by the National Center for ONET Development under contract with the US Department of Labor. It is one of the most widely used career-exploration assessments in vocational rehabilitation settings because it is free, fully web-based, and links directly to a comprehensive national occupation database covering wages, growth projections, and required credentials.

What It Does

Users answer questions about activities they enjoy, and the Profiler scores results across six interest dimensions (Holland codes). Matched occupations display wage data, employment outlook, required education, and links to deeper career profiles. The companion My Next Move interface (mynextmove.org) offers the same assessment tailored for veterans and general job seekers through distinct, accessible entry points.

Who It Helps

The Interest Profiler is useful at any career stage but is especially valuable during vocational rehabilitation planning, school-to-work transition, and re-entry after a disability-related career disruption. VR counsellors frequently use it as a first step to identify suitable career goals before developing an Individualised Plan for Employment (IPE).
