O*NET OnLine is maintained by the U.S. Department of Labor's Employment and Training Administration and replaced the legacy Dictionary of Occupational Titles (DOT) as the nation's primary occupational taxonomy. It is continuously updated with real labour market data and supports career planning across all sectors.
Users can explore 900+ occupations by keyword, skill, interest, or industry, viewing detailed breakdowns of tasks, knowledge areas, tools, technology, education requirements, wages, and job outlook. The O*NET Interest Profiler — available via companion site My Next Move — is a free 60-question assessment matching users to occupations based on Holland RIASEC interest types, with Mi Próximo Paso offering the same tools in Spanish. Paper-pencil formats are also available for users who cannot access the digital version.
People with disabilities exploring careers that match their abilities, VR counselors conducting vocational assessments, transition specialists identifying job goals for students with disabilities, and job seekers looking to transfer skills to a new occupation. Accessible across devices and available in multiple formats to accommodate diverse learning needs.
