About this resource

About

The STAR Institute (Sensory Therapies and Research) was formed in 2016 through the merger of the SPD Foundation and the STAR Center in Denver, Colorado. Led by occupational therapy and neurodevelopmental experts, it has specialised in SPD research, treatment, and advocacy for over 30 years.

What It Does

STAR Institute offers free articles and guides covering sensory processing in infants and young children, a red-flag checklist for families and preschool educators, a searchable directory to find SPD-specialised therapists, and resources for creating sensory-friendly home and classroom environments. It also runs professional training, supports ongoing research, and advocates for wider clinical recognition of SPD.

Who It Helps

Serves families of children — especially infants through primary school age — who experience sensory processing challenges, often alongside autism, ADHD, or other developmental conditions. Also supports occupational therapists, early intervention providers, and teachers working with children who have sensory needs.
