About
Founded in 1983, Access Alaska is Alaska's primary statewide Centre for Independent Living (CIL). With offices in Anchorage, Fairbanks, the Matanuska-Susitna Valley, and Kenai, Access Alaska ensures that Alaskans with disabilities — including those in rural and remote communities — have access to peer-driven independent living services.
What They Do
Access Alaska delivers the five core independent living services required of all CILs: information and referral, peer counselling, individual and systems advocacy, independent living skills training, and transition services. The organisation also assists individuals moving from nursing facilities or other institutional settings back into community living.
Who They Serve
Access Alaska serves adults with any type of disability throughout Alaska, with particular emphasis on individuals seeking to leave institutional settings and live independently, and on those in underserved rural and remote communities across the state.
