AODA Alliance

The AODA Alliance is a voluntary, non-partisan disability consumer coalition founded in 2005 to champion the full implementation of Ontario's Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act. It monitors government progress and holds Ontario accountable for making the province barrier-free by 2025.

About

Established in 2005 immediately after the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) received royal assent, the AODA Alliance succeeded the ODA Committee that had campaigned for the law's passage since 1994. Operating as a grassroots, unfunded, volunteer-driven coalition, it has no paid staff and is based in Toronto, Ontario.

What They Do

The AODA Alliance rigorously monitors provincial implementation of AODA accessibility standards, submits detailed submissions to government-commissioned independent reviews, and publishes reports holding Ontario's government accountable for meeting statutory deadlines. It covers standards in built environment, employment, education, health care, and transportation.

Who They Serve

The Alliance advocates for the more than two million Ontarians with all types of disabilities, and indirectly for all Ontarians who benefit from barrier-free design in public and private spaces.
