Belize Assembly for Persons with Diverse Abilities(BAPDA)
A Belizean-chartered, disabled-led non-profit founded in September 2009 to advocate for the inclusion and rights of all persons with disabilities in Belize. With a membership of over 500 persons and a Board of Directors composed entirely of persons with disabilities, BAPDA campaigns for accessible environments, inclusive policies, and the removal of systemic barriers nationwide.
About
BADPA (Belize Assembly for Persons with Diverse Abilities) was formed in September 2009 as Belize's principal disability-led advocacy organisation. It is governed entirely by a Board of Directors composed of persons with disabilities, and operates as a fully volunteer, community-based non-profit with 500+ members. BAPDA launched its dedicated website in July 2020 and is a member of DPI North America and the Caribbean.
What They Do
BADPA advocates for disability rights and inclusive policies with government and the private sector, campaigns for accessibility in transportation, education, and public spaces, and runs public petitions and awareness campaigns on behalf of persons with diverse abilities. It also produces educational videos featuring persons with disabilities in Belize and engages in periodic donation drives to fund its work.
Who They Serve
All Belizeans with physical, sensory, intellectual, and psychosocial disabilities, as well as their families and allies working toward a Belize that is fully responsive to the rights and participation of persons with diverse abilities.
