About

The Centre for Disability in Development (CDD) is a Bangladeshi not-for-profit organisation established in 1996 with the mission of developing a more inclusive society for persons with disabilities. It operates from offices in Dhaka, Savar, and Gaibandha with approximately 140 staff. In 2010, founding Executive Director A.H.M. Noman Khan was awarded the Ramon Magsaysay Award — Asia's most prestigious civic honour — for his pioneering work in disability-inclusive development.

What They Do

CDD operates through a dual-track model: educating communities to become more inclusive while enabling persons with disabilities to participate in society through direct support. Its programmes span inclusive education, community-based rehabilitation (CBR), assistive device provision, livelihood support, and humanitarian inclusion in disasters and emergencies. CDD works with a network of over 350 partner organisations and provides technical assistance to government bodies and international agencies.

Who They Serve

CDD serves persons with all types of disabilities across Bangladesh, with particular focus on communities where disability intersects with poverty, geographic isolation, and social exclusion. Its humanitarian inclusion work also reaches disabled people affected by floods and other disasters. Women with disabilities and children with disabilities receive targeted programme attention within CDD's wider cross-disability approach.
