CERMI — Comité Español de Representantes de Personas con Discapacidad(CERMI)

CERMI (Comité Español de Representantes de Personas con Discapacidad) is Spain's national disability umbrella body, founded in 1997 and representing more than 3.8 million people with disabilities through a coalition of over 7,000 member entities. Based in Madrid, it is the primary platform for defending disability rights and influencing legislation across Spain.

Founded in 1997 in Madrid, CERMI unites Spain's main disability organisations — covering physical, sensory, intellectual, and psychosocial disabilities — into a single national platform. Its membership spans the six largest Spanish disability federations as well as regional umbrellas and specialist organisations, collectively representing over 3.8 million people.

What They Do

CERMI advocates for legislative reform, monitors Spain's implementation of the UN CRPD, campaigns on employment, education, healthcare, and social services, and produces policy research and position papers. It represents Spanish disability organisations within the European Disability Forum and at international forums.
