Consortium of Disability Organisations(CODO)
Founded in 2001, the Consortium of Disability Organisations is Trinidad and Tobago's primary national umbrella body, uniting Disabled Persons Organisations, NGOs, civil society groups, and schools in service of persons with disabilities. CODO champions a unified, rights-based approach to disability policy and serves as the country's collective voice on legislation, inclusion, and social advocacy.
About
Founded in 2001, CODO is the recognised national umbrella organisation for the disability community in Trinidad and Tobago. Its membership spans Disabled Persons Organisations, non-governmental organisations, civil society bodies, and public and private schools serving persons with disabilities.
What They Do
CODO coordinates member organisations, engages government on disability policy and legislation, and facilitates community programmes to advance inclusion. The organisation advocates for a rights-based approach to disability — described as "the vanguard for disability rights in the region" — and regularly participates in national dialogue on disability law reform and social services.
Who They Serve
CODO serves the full disability community of Trinidad and Tobago — persons with physical, sensory, intellectual, and psychosocial disabilities, together with the organisations and schools that support them — across all age groups.
