Organization
Colorado Cross-Disability Coalition(CCDC)
Colorado's premier disability rights organisation, governed and operated entirely by people with diverse disabilities since 1990. CCDC uses litigation, education, and grassroots organising to advance social justice for Coloradans with all types of disabilities.
About
Founded in 1990 in the wake of the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Colorado Cross-Disability Coalition (CCDC) is the only statewide organisation in Colorado governed and operated by people with diverse disabilities. Led by co-executive director Julie Reiskin, herself a person with a disability, CCDC brings a cross-disability perspective that recognises shared experiences across mobility impairments, chronic illness, mental health conditions, and sensory disabilities.
What They Do
CCDC operates a legal programme to enforce the ADA and other civil rights laws, pairs enforcement with consulting and education for businesses and government agencies, and delivers a certified eight-week advocacy training programme in partnership with the University of Denver. The organisation also conducts voter registration and engagement campaigns and provides individual advocacy support to Coloradans facing discrimination.
Who They Serve
Coloradans with all types of disabilities — mobility impairments, chronic illness, mental health conditions, sensory disabilities, and more — who need individual advocacy, legal assistance, or want to participate in systems-level change and community organising.
