About

The Center for People with Disabilities (CPWD) was co-founded in 1977 by Judy Dixon and Homer Page as one of Colorado's earliest Independent Living Centers. Based in Boulder, CPWD is part of the national network of over 400 Centers operating under the Independent Living movement's consumer-control philosophy, and serves over 2,200 people annually.

What They Do

CPWD provides the five core independent living services — peer support, information and referral, independent living skills training, individual advocacy, and systems advocacy — across Boulder, Broomfield, Longmont, and Thornton. Additional programs include assistive technology demonstration, housing assistance, community integration support, and transition services from institutions to community living.

Who They Serve

Adults and youth with any physical, sensory, cognitive, or psychiatric disability who live in the Boulder–Denver metro area and want to achieve or maintain independent, self-determined lives in their community.
