Disability Alliance BC(DABC)

Disability Alliance BC (DABC) has been British Columbia's provincial cross-disability voice since 1977, promoting a more inclusive and equitable society for people with all disabilities through direct services, systemic advocacy, research, and publications. Led by and for people with disabilities, DABC is widely recognised as BC's go-to resource for disability benefits navigation, legal rights information, and consumer-led advocacy.

About

Founded in 1977 as the BC Coalition of People with Disabilities, Disability Alliance BC rebranded in 2014 to better reflect its broad mandate. The organisation operates from Vancouver and serves the entire province, publishing extensively on disability policy, income security, and accessibility.

What They Do

DABC provides step-by-step support with provincial and federal disability benefit applications, Disability Tax Credit claims, and appeals. It produces widely downloaded guides and fact sheets on disability rights in plain, accessible language. Through systemic advocacy, DABC engages with the BC government on legislation and regulation affecting people with disabilities, and it coordinates with national organisations to align provincial and federal disability policy.

Who They Serve

DABC serves adults with all types of disabilities across British Columbia — physical, sensory, psychiatric, cognitive, and chronic — with special attention to people navigating the intersection of disability and poverty, Indigenous people with disabilities, and newcomers to Canada whose disability needs are unmet.
