About

Disability Rights Michigan (DRM) is the federally designated Protection and Advocacy (P&A) system for Michigan, established in 1981 as Michigan Protection and Advocacy Service and headquartered in Lansing. With over four decades of experience, DRM protects and advances the legal rights of people with all types of disabilities across the state.

What They Do

DRM provides free legal services covering special education, abuse and neglect in facilities, Medicaid and benefits, housing, employment discrimination, and community integration. It holds federal access authority to inspect and investigate any facility serving people with disabilities in Michigan, pursues systemic litigation and policy reform, and administers the state Client Assistance Program (CAP) for vocational rehabilitation clients.

Who They Serve

Disability Rights Michigan serves all people with disabilities in Michigan — adults and children — with a focus on those at greatest risk of rights violations, including individuals in institutions, students with disabilities, and those facing discrimination in employment or housing.
