Disability Rights Montana(DRM)
Disability Rights Montana is Montana's federally designated Protection and Advocacy System, established in 1977 and based in Helena, that protects and advances the human, legal, and civil rights of Montanans with disabilities through advocacy, legal services, and systemic change. Operating as an independent nonprofit, DRM champions dignity, equality, and self-determination for people with disabilities across the state.
About
Founded in 1977 as the Montana Advocacy Program, the organisation rebranded as Disability Rights Montana in 2008 to better reflect its identity and mission. Based in Helena at 1022 Chestnut Street, DRM is Montana's federally mandated Protection and Advocacy agency and a member of the National Disability Rights Network, serving all Montanans with disabilities free of charge.
What They Do
DRM provides individual legal advocacy, systemic litigation, policy and legislative advocacy, self-advocacy training, facility monitoring, and investigation of abuse and neglect. The organisation engages in both direct client services and broader change efforts to remove barriers facing Montana's disability community in education, healthcare, housing, and community living.
Who They Serve
DRM serves Montanans of all ages with any disability — including physical, cognitive, psychiatric, developmental, and sensory conditions — without regard to income. Services extend across Montana's vast rural landscape, including Native American reservation communities.
