About
Disability Rights South Dakota (DRSD) has served as South Dakota's federally mandated Protection and Advocacy (P&A) system since 1977, with offices in Pierre (headquarters), Sioux Falls, and Rapid City. A private nonprofit operating independently of state government, DRSD advocates for the rights of people with any disability across all of South Dakota.
What They Do
DRSD provides legal and administrative advocacy, information and referral, abuse and neglect investigations, employment rights assistance, and Social Security/SSDI help. It runs the Partners in Policymaking leadership training programme and hosts South Dakota Advocates for Change, a self-advocacy group led by people with disabilities.
Who They Serve
South Dakotans of all ages with any disability — developmental, physical, psychiatric, or sensory — who face discrimination, rights violations, abuse, or barriers to independent community living.
