Founded in 1977, Disability Rights Texas (DRTx) is the state's designated Protection and Advocacy (P&A) system, part of the federally funded network present in every state and territory. Operating statewide from its headquarters in Austin, DRTx is one of the largest civil rights organizations in Texas.

What They Do

DRTx provides free legal advocacy to people with disabilities who face discrimination or rights violations in areas including education, employment, healthcare, housing, transportation, and voting. Services include direct legal representation, investigation of abuse and neglect in residential facilities, and self-advocacy training in English and Spanish.

Who They Serve

Any Texan with a disability can contact DRTx for assistance. Priority is given to situations involving abuse, neglect, or serious civil rights violations. Services are available at no cost through a statewide intake line and online request system.
