About
Disability Rights Wisconsin (DRW) is Wisconsin's Governor-designated, federally funded Protection & Advocacy agency. Established by executive order, DRW is a private nonprofit that advocates for the rights of all Wisconsin citizens with disabilities through individual services and systemic change, and is part of the national network of federally mandated disability agencies.
What They Do
DRW provides legal representation and advocacy, investigates abuse and neglect in care settings, and manages the Family Care & IRIS Ombudsman Programme — which helps people with disabilities access self-directed community care alternatives to institutional placement. The organisation also engages in policy reform through litigation and legislative advocacy, and offers information and referrals statewide.
Who They Serve
Wisconsin residents with any type of disability — physical, psychiatric, intellectual, and developmental — with priority focus on individuals at risk of institutionalisation, experiencing rights violations, or navigating the state's long-term care systems.
