About
Disabled Peoples' International Asia-Pacific Region (DPI/AP) is the regional office of Disabled Peoples' International, an international cross-disability human rights organisation established in 1981. The Asia-Pacific regional office was formally set up in Bangkok in 1991 and is led by and for persons with disabilities. DPI is a founding member of the International Disability Alliance and holds consultative status with the United Nations.
What They Do
DPI/AP facilitates regional assemblies and policy dialogue among national DPO member organisations, advocates for the ratification and implementation of the CRPD across Asia-Pacific governments, and builds organisational capacity of grassroots disability federations. The office coordinates positions on regional frameworks such as the ASEAN Enabling Masterplan and provides technical support for disability rights monitoring and reporting.
Who They Serve
DPI/AP primarily serves its national member organisations — cross-disability federations and DPOs — across the Asia-Pacific. Its ultimate constituency is persons with all types of disabilities who benefit from stronger national DPOs and better-implemented disability rights law. Organisational membership spans dozens of countries across East, Southeast, South, and Pacific Asia.
