About
Funktionsrätt Sverige (the Swedish Disability Rights Federation) was established as Handikappförbundens samarbetsorgan (HSO) and renamed in 2017 to reflect a rights-based perspective on disability. Based in Sundbyberg near Stockholm, the federation unites 54 national organisations and represents approximately 400,000 individual members across Sweden.
What They Do
Funktionsrätt Sverige acts as a formal referral body to the Swedish government, parliament, and national authorities on all disability policy matters. It runs campaigns on accessibility, independent living, employment, and inclusive education, monitors Sweden's obligations under the UN CRPD, and produces research and guidance materials for its member organisations.
Who They Serve
Funktionsrätt Sverige serves people across all disability types — physical, sensory, cognitive, and chronic illness — along with their families, through its 54 member organisations nationwide.
