The Kentucky Assistive Technology Services (KATS) Network is Kentucky's federally funded state assistive technology programme, operating five Regional AT Resource Centres that offer device demonstrations, six-week equipment loans, and a free reutilisation programme for Kentuckians of all ages with any disability. KATS makes assistive technology accessible statewide through hands-on, no-cost services.
About
The KATS Network is one of 56 statewide Assistive Technology Act programmes funded by the federal AT Act of 1998 (reauthorised 2022) through the Administration for Community Living. Five Regional Assistive Technology Resource Centres (ATRCs) are located in Hazard, Louisville, Ft. Mitchell, Lexington, and Owensboro, ensuring coverage across all regions of Kentucky.
What They Do
KATS provides AT device demonstrations, six-week equipment lending so people can try before they buy, and the CARAT reutilisation programme that collects, refurbishes, and redistributes assistive technology and durable medical equipment at low or no cost. KATS also offers statewide information and referral via a toll-free hotline (800-327-5287) and training for individuals, families, employers, and educators.
Who They Serve
KATS serves Kentuckians of all ages with any disability, as well as their family members, educators, employers, and healthcare providers who need guidance on assistive technology solutions. All core services — demonstrations, loans, and reutilisation — are free of charge.
