About
Based in Vientiane, the Lao Disabled Women's Development Centre (LDWDC) is a pioneering organisation run entirely by Lao women with disabilities for Lao women with disabilities. The centre recognises that societal attitudes are often a greater barrier than disability itself, and works to dismantle those barriers while providing practical skills, income opportunities, and community.
What They Do
LDWDC provides vocational training in sewing, weaving, recycled paper-making, and handicraft production, alongside courses in small business management, IT, Lao and English language, healthcare and hygiene, and women's civil rights. The centre supports participants in establishing self-employment and profitable enterprises. Leadership development and disability advocacy are woven throughout all programming.
Who They Serve
LDWDC serves women with physical and other disabilities in Laos, particularly those facing the compounded barriers of gender, disability, and economic disadvantage. The centre also engages the broader community to build understanding of disability rights and promote inclusive attitudes.
