The peak disability advocacy body in Laos PDR, established in 2001 and representing more than 11,000 members across all 18 provinces in their pursuit of rights, employment, and social inclusion. LDPA is the sole cross-disability DPO formally recognised by the Lao government.
About
Lao Disabled People's Association (LDPA) was established in 2001 and is one of the few officially recognised non-profit civil society associations in Lao PDR. Headquartered in Vientiane Capital, LDPA operates branches in all 18 provinces and coordinates through elected cell secretaries and an executive committee of persons with disabilities.
What They Do
LDPA pursues five strategic priorities: rights training and awareness at provincial and national levels; employment services connecting members with suitable employers; disability-inclusive policy development and law reform; income-generation and social-inclusion programmes; and strategic communications through radio, television, and disability events. LDPA also helped establish the Lao Association of the Blind (2007), Lao Autism Association (2007), and Intellectual Disability Unit (2008).
Who They Serve
LDPA represents all persons with disability in Lao PDR regardless of disability type or membership status. Its more than 11,000 registered members include people with physical, visual, hearing, intellectual, and psychosocial disabilities, and the association advocates on behalf of all disabled Lao citizens.
